EMERSON HONORS 109 ST. LOUIS-AREA EDUCATORS WITH EXCELLENCE IN TEACHING AWARDS

ST. LOUIS, Nov. 12, 2018 – 109 local educators were honored at the 2018 Emerson Excellence in Teaching Awards. Recipients were selected by their schools’ administration to honor their accomplishments and steadfast dedication to the teaching profession. The ceremony and reception, where each recipient received an engraved Tiffany & Co. crystal apple box, were held at the Ritz Carlton on Sunday, November 11.

“Every year, Emerson looks forward to honoring and recognizing the outstanding teachers in the greater St. Louis area,” said David J. Rabe, Emerson vice president of corporate social responsibility. “Their role in our community is vital and irreplaceable, and we are delighted to celebrate their achievements through this annual awards program.”

Mrs. Carol Nowack, fifth grade teacher at Sullivan Elementary School, was the Sullivan School District's 2018 Emerson Excellence in Teaching Award Recipient.  Mrs. Nowack has 28 years of teaching experience with 25 of those years as a fifth grade teacher in Sullivan.  She is an educator who is passionate about learning.  She holds high expectations for all students, and she cares deeply about each student's academic, social, and emotional well-being.  Mrs. Nowack is a building leader in her math Professional Learning Community and in writing science curriculum.  At the District level, Mrs. Nowack serves as the Campus Mentor for first and second year teachers and those new to the building.

Award recipients will have the opportunity to apply for a Gold Star Grant from Emerson, to be presented in spring 2019. Honorees from this year and the past five years are eligible to apply for the competitive grants, which are designed to fund educational projects that reflect the pillars of the Emerson brand – technology, innovation and leadership. Since 2006, Emerson has awarded $615,000 to area teachers and schools through the Gold Star Grant program.

The Excellence in Teaching Awards program began in 1989 and is sponsored annually by Emerson, a global technology and engineering leader headquartered in St. Louis. Emerson and its Charitable Trust fund the Excellence in Teaching and Gold Star Grant programs. Under its Charitable Trust, the company donated $8 million to many education programs, individual schools and scholarship recipients nationally for the year ending September 30, 2018.

On behalf of the Emerson Excellence in Teaching Awards program and the Sullivan School District, congratulations to Mrs. Carol Nowack on her recognition as an outstanding teacher in the greater St. Louis area.
